Hearing Set on Draft No-Discharge Permit for C&H Hog Farms


NORTH LITTLE ROCK - 
The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) will hold a public meeting and hearing in Jasper, AR on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, to receive public comments on a proposed draft permit for storage and land application of liquid waste. The hearing will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Jasper School District Cafetorium, 600 School Street.

The draft permit application was submitted by C&H Hog Farms, Inc., HC 72 Box 2, Vendor, AR  72683. This draft permit is for the storage and land application of liquid waste from a swine facility in accordance with Arkansas Pollution Control and Ecology Commission (APC&EC) Regulation 5.

The land application sites are on numerous farm fields in Newton County. A detailed description of the locations for each land application site may be found at this location on ADEQ’s website: http://www.adeq.state.ar.us/home/pdssql/pds.aspx. When the webpage opens, the permit number, 5264-W, should be typed into the “Permit Number” box in the search form to access the draft permit.


Persons attending the meeting and hearing should enter the school building at the clock tower. ADEQ personnel will make a brief presentation and answer questions during the informal portion of the event, beginning at 6:00 p.m., to be followed by the formal public hearing and comment period.


Written and oral statements may be submitted regarding the draft permit during the formal public hearing, but written comments are preferred in the interest of accuracy. The public comment period will end March 17, 2017.

After the public comment period and public hearing, ADEQ will issue a final permitting decision. ADEQ will notify the applicant and each person who has submitted written comments or requested notice of the final permitting decision. Any interested person who has submitted comments may appeal a final decision by ADEQ in accordance with provisions in the APC&EC’s Regulation 8.
